EARTH & PLANETARY INTERIOR RESEARCH
Geophysical tools permit the study of the inaccessible regions of the interior of Earth and planets - from crust to innermost core. I study these things using seismology, a branch of geophysics. My research aims to understand structures inside our planet and the Moon that relate to dynamical motions and hence evolution of the planetary body itself. My group is especially interested in how such things relate to important surface observables, such as plate tectonics and volcanism.
Explore the links above to learn of our publications and research group. Also, check out the research image gallery. Here at ASU we geophysicists (e.g., Profs McNamara, Shim, Tyburczy) are working hard to study Earth in a planetary context, and are always in active dialog with SESE’s planetary scientists (e.g., Profs Bell, Christensen, Robinson). We are also interested in sensor development to explore Earth and other planets (e.g., Prof. Yu). Feel free to email me for more information, or to learn about graduate student research opportunities.
